Question Going broadband, is it worth it?

I was thinking about going broadband for a few months now and trying to persuade my parents to. I was just wondering are there really a lot of benefits from broadband and helping me playing online because playing online on a 56k is really rubbish and annoyingly slow. If we do go on broadband it will be on freeserve. I would appreciate and replys about your experiences and how easy it is to set up and the benefits. Thanks.

Freeserve?? you would probably be able to pickup your freeserve mail regardless of who you go with.

Benefits of broadband to sell to parents?

Not having phone line hogged by computer.
Its on 24/7 so more convienient - it becomes a way of life.

In terms of setup, I went with Zen. Ordered on a tuesday afternoon and was online by friday morning. Hassle free.

You will never want to use 56k again after switching to broadband. Gaming, fast downloads, streaming video and the like. Also id go for zen as the isp too very good!

Is it worth it? Yes. If only to see yourself occasionally at the top of the list of Call Of Duty online.

And if you're networked, all computers can access online at the same time and you can still use the phone. Wouldn't be without it now.

I also went with Zen, they're good. And super quick downloads, Linux ISO's, drivers, patches, freebie games, demos, they're all within reach with BB.

It's very easy to set up, and the benefits are huge. A few days of using broadband and you'll wonder how you ever survived on 56k. It's a massive difference. I couldn't survive if I had to go back to dial up.

I love my broadband. When I was at my parents recently I was using their computer on 56k dialup and I nearly had to throw it through a window! It is just sooo slow! I am with Pipex and have never had a problem with them, good speeds and never had any connection problems.

A nice benefit of broadband is the ability to keep up to date with security patches, antivirus software and windows updates.

If you're going to be playing games, a definate yes.

I've got FreeServe, and I haven't had any problems, easy to set up.

i cant get BB - but when i went from 56K (more like 36k) to Mindband (homehighway with BT ISP - aka ISDN+) the diffrentce was HUGE

    - 100% reliable
    - much faster (64k/128k)
    - doest hog to phone (if you stay on 64k)
    - actually gives you a 2nd analog phone line (when at 64k)
    - 155 hours unmeterd time per month
    - all for "only" £30 a month (yes it is a rip off)
