    Use PC as Wireless Router

    Hello,

I have a ASUS P5B-Deluxe Wi-Fi/AP motherboard, i wonder if it is possible to use this as a wireless router as I wish for my wii and laptop to use my internet connection.

At the end of the month I will buy a wireless router, but until then i wish to do it this way. I know it is possbile, just not entirely sure how.

If someone could post some guide, that would be great.

    regards

Before doing that, check out the software on the asus CD - if memory serves me right you can set it up as a "wireless SoftAP" (software access point) which automatically handles the ICS gubbins for you without having to resort to the otherwise dreadful ICS.
    Moo.

if I recall correctly there's an app that comes with that board that will allow you to easily set the wireless as an access point, bridged to you wired connection. If you don't have the CD check the Asus website.

EDIT - nuts, I knew I should have posted yesterday

Re: Use PC as Wireless Router

I am using the Asus Wifi-AP software, and it seems to work. Initially i could get the wireless devices connecting but unable to browse the net.. after some digging, i enabled the following services on ICS ;dns/http/https and all seems fine.

This has saved me the expense of purchasing an wireless router and has enabled me to use the wii online/iphone/laptops.

...though it does mean that your PC has to be on whenever you want to play on the Wii etc.
