Download speed goes up and down ?

    Hello people

I have notice that when I download something from a website, it does start with a little lower speed and raises within short time to the maximum download speed of between 350 & 450 kbps, in average.
I know that is depending on many factors.

At the moment I'm using one p2p (SS) where the DL speed pretty much varies, depending on the source.
I get anything between 2 and 80 kbps, but most of the time around 30 to 40 kbps.

The reason for this thread is what I noticed at my other p2p client.
It has a graph built in which shows very nicely the speed ... but why does it always go up and down I wonder ?

Have made two speed tests, although I did not close down the p2p client of mine when performing these tests ...

That's what I have: o2 DSL Router Classic

Speed (up to) 4.096 KBit/s, according to my ISP.

Re: Download speed goes up and down ?

For p2p stuff your download speed is going to depend on the availability of the file and the bandwisth of the seeders, you may find that other users with big connections can go offline throughout the course of your download and this will affect your download speed. Also there have been rumours afoot of some ISP experimenting with p2p throttling software!

For normal web downloads, to maximise your connection speed maybe look at some of the 'download accelerators' such as getright (http://getright.com/) or reget (http://www.reget.com/en/), these generally work on the principle of breaking your download into chunks and downloading multiple chuks at the same time. Personally I use reget for large file downloads for 2 reasons (1) faster downloads & (2) auto resuming on larger files (such as Linux distros etc.).

Most do it already from my understanding. Usually encrypting, ip blocking and using https:// sites tends to prevent the nosey buggers spying on you

Re: Download speed goes up and down ?

Torrents are not predictable, they can hugely depend on download file and popularity

but for normal HTTP stuff (website stuff) i use orbit since it is another downlad manager but this one also lets you download embeded flash and mp3 files

.....for normal people rip stuff off youtube and save playing music from random sites
