As above in tittle i just bought me a nice lille wireless router by blekin its only the 802.11b version. Now i know it has nat and spi as firewall can someone tell me if spi and nat are actually any good at stopping hacking activity?

NAT's great - the router has a public IP on one side, and has a private IP, through which it communicates with the rest of the computers on your network, all also having private IP's.
That means, unless you specifically set up port forwarding or a DMZ, no outside hacker can get directly at your computers, unless they compromise the router (unlikely.)
However, one thing NAT won't stop is trojans that are sending out data, as this is something of an "inside job." Some would say a software firewall stops situations like that - true, it does usually, but I'm happy just to stick with antivirus software.
