    Bethere and their "dynamic" IP

    Basically,
Ive had the same IP since I signed up 3 months ago, even after turning off the router for several hours overnight. I still get "given" the same IP. Ive called up a few times to tell them this, and they say its just that the IP you were using wasnt reassigned, so it was given back to you. :/

Anyone else experiencing this with bethere?

Re: Bethere and their "dynamic" IP

So your complaint is that you've got the same IP for 3 months? What exactly is wrong with that? I had the same IP for a couple of weeks, and then it changed, and now I've had that for a while. It really isn't an issue.

Re: Bethere and their "dynamic" IP

It is the way DHCP works. If the IP address your device did have is still available it will try and resassign the same one to you, only if it has been taken will it give you a new one.

Also.. many people pay for a static IP, so you getting it for free is not a bad thing surely?

Yea they pay for it cause they need it, I dont. They run ftps or whatnot, and I will NEVER do that, so its completely unnecessary.
Open connections that dont need to be there, once Ive rebooted my PC and the router is what annoys me. THat is all.

Why would you have open connections after resetting your router?

Re: Bethere and their "dynamic" IP

its because BE's ip system renews your IP if you leave it off for over 24 hours. most people have routers on most of the time... so you wont lose the IP ever.

As long as you have software firewall, hardware firewall and a decent AV you have nothing to worry about.

And open connections after you reboot the PC and Router?

Spoof your router's mac and bingo you should have a new one. Worked and works for me on Be and O2. I switch from 78.x.x.x to 92.x.x.x etc using the netgear or speedtouch's mac address.

I agree. I've never had any issues (virus, trojans, etc.) in all my time with bethere. Couldn't care less if they juggled my IP or not. As has been said, there aren't many legitimate reasons why you should want a non-static IP anyway.

Re: Bethere and their "dynamic" IP

I'm sure my "dynamic" ip only changes every 6 months or so.

you can't avoid port scans etc , just have a good perimiter firewall.
