keystone or modular also a quick check on this

Could someone check that i have got this right before i start.
I am looking to connect to my main router in the loft and network the house so i plan to run 2 cat5e cables to each room (a main and a spare) these will be terminated at each end by a wall outlet with a double socket the connection into the router and the other rooms will then be by a patch lead from wall to device (crossed or straight) then the connection in the living room will go into a spare wireless router that i have connected by a patch lead (crossed or straight) then using this split the connection into 4 way and connect to the devices by patch leads (crossed or straight).
So is this correct and with the bold type what leads would i need, i would be connecting a tivo (pvr) and xbox (running media centre), a access point for the internet.
Also keystone or modular connections and why?

You should be fine with straight cables all round (you can also use crossed if you have any, it won't make a difference) - all of your equipment should be auto-uplink which basically means it will cross the connection if necessary. As for keystone vs modular, I think keystone simply refers to the connector type where modular means something about the design of the wall box. Could you post a link to the products if the are on the net? Also, will you be setting up file sharing?

Yes will eventually be running a server with files on it video & music to go into each room

Are you planning to plug in the server behind the second router in the living room or into the first router? If it's only behind the first router (closest to internet) you shouldn't have any problems but if you are planning to have it behind the second router you will probably have to configure static routing. Any servers/media streamers would be better on the router closest to the internet.
I'm not sure what modular means, sorry but I think you would be fine with either.

the server will be in the attic with the main router, i will hope to be using the downstairs router just to split the single feed into 4 so i can connect 4 devices to it

You can't gurantee that all your devices will detect the correct connection. for most of what you described, straight through cables will be fine, but it is always worth while having one cross over cable to eliminate (or confirm) a connection problem is because of a mismatch.

Yeah, some equipment won't be auto sensing, but everything I use is and I use only straight cables. It is worth checking...

So wire everything as straight through and if needed use a crossover patch cable?

Exactly. Also (if you have the tools) make some patch leads yourself with the excess. They aren't as hard-wearing if you have solid core but should be fine for desktops. Feel free to shout for help if needed!

It doesn't matter as long as you use the same method on both ends of the cable. It's best to stick with one method all over to avoid confusion.
