    Re: Virgin Media 20MB

Did Virgin increase the prices after the 2-10 Mb upgrade? I called them up, I have all 3 packages at M i think. I used to get £11 off the old £18 2Mb internet, but now after the free upgrade I am being charged £24 for the Internet, £11 line rental and with a £5 discount. They offered to increase my tv package to L or something but I have the TV sorted anyway.

I might consider leaving but I have no BT line at this house. How is an ADSL service these days compared to cable?

    Re: Virgin Media 20MB

    Thanks guys,

I saw this thread and thought I'd give VM a call.

    I was on 10MB L and Phone M for £27 a month

I was offered the same package for £20 pm or move to 20MB for £31 (incl phone M)

As I probably wouldn't see much of an increase at 20MB, (lets face it, not much actually downloads at 10MB even though test sites show I get a solid 9.5MB) I took the saving and stayed with what I had.

So a quick call got me a saving of 25%, and they credit back the pro rata for the current month as that is effectively overpaid...about £4.

You may not get the same rates (apparently I have some lifetime discount, presumably from the massive problems I had with them 3 years ago), but you may still save money on what you are paying.

    Cheers

    Ade

Im on the 20Mb package and I reach nearly 30Mb/3MB although most of the time it hovers between 24-27Mb.

In South London ADSL is better than cable, It works all the time and is faster than cable even if you can only get 9Mb/s

    Re: Virgin Media 20MB

I'm supposed to beg on a 10meg packaged but i regularly get 18mbit and above. However, as stated I really don't think there are many places where you can make use of the download capability although I have had the odd thing fly along at over 2mb/s

I found the opposite, i had loads of issues and downtime with my ADSL in South London, my 10mb vm cable has been a dream in comparison.

To fezfezed if you dont need/want to pay for a phone line cable normally works out better. Plus you wont have to pay the new proposed adsl charge phone owners will have in the new year

No, It ia faster than the 20Mb/s cable package was, Which only managed 8.5Mb/s and millions of excuses from VM as to why it was so slow.

The Cable network here has past its sell by date - It was put in by the original company in approx 1986.

Where I am BT put in new underground cables a few years ago and even though I'm a good distance from the exchange I can still get a sensible speed and reliability. Not to mention it is £20 a month cheaper than VM charged for the 20Mb package.

Just hooked up with V.M after a little problem connecting due to having Windows 7, all is fine with the 20Mb package.
