After 4 years of faithful service my Netgear DG834GT router appears to have died this morning. I'm currently using my ISP supplied Thomson Speedtouch (I'm with O2 broadband).
Problem is the port forwarding just doesn't seem to ever work on their modems, didn't with my old Be Box either before that. Used the same interface so assume the software behind it was just the same...
Anyway, I like Netgear routers as they've always worked as configured and been easy to setup from my experience.
The options appear to be:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/147199 - Netgear DGN2000 - No cheap 2nd hand prices
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145579 - Netgear - DG834PN - (£43 delivered 2nd hand from Amazon market place)
I believe the DG834PN is an older model, but does that matter. Why have they introduced the DGN2000, is it meant to be a 'budget' draft-N router?
All that matters to me is ease of set-up and stability. I will be connecting 3 wireless devices (2 desktop and a laptop), and one desktop via homeplug.
It must be compatible with my o2 brandband, but since Netgear routers (including the DGN2000) seem to use the same set-up interface I don't think compatibility would be a problem with these models.
Thoughts and suggestions for other brands welcome. What is the reputation of Linksys, Belkin, D-link and others?
