Is there no PC for me?

    Hi guys,
this is my very first post in this forum so I really hope to have posted my query in the appropriate section; if that's not the case , please accept my excuses.

Anyway , the reason I need your expert opinions is because for the last 2/3 months I have been looking for a prebuilt desktop to substitute my rapidly aging Medion MD 8828 (core2 CPU, 4GBDDR2); and a trusted friend invited me to join this forum and ask for your opinions of which he has the highest respect.

I prefer a prebuilt system because last year I attempted to build a fancy HTPC (500 euros only for the cabinet with inbuilt touchscreen, core2duo,4gigs of ram) and because of a deadly mix of lack of time, laziness, and plain noob-ness, I ended up asking to a pro to assemble it for me
Now I don't even have the option to ask for his help because apparently he runned away with the money of his clients and suppliers and has'nt been heard of for the last 5/6 months (not my money , thanks God).

I am looking for a machine with an i7 CPU at least 6/8GIGs DDR3, w7 (at least) home premium, and a minimum of 1 HDMI AND 1 DVI outs , to be able to connect a very minimum of 1LCD monitor+ 2 TVs.
(for my present system I bought a "black box" that multiplied X 3 its only HDMI out)
I also need that it has o it could be possible to install , WIFI broadband (to connect to my NAS and other PCs) and a dvd burner.

I want to stress that I am not a gamer by any stretch of the term: I just do not play PC games; I'm a multimedia guy.
I like to stream long videos from the interwebs to my connected HTPC and TVs set ups, and as a journalist I need to be able to edit videos, pics (heavy photoshopping is a must), and audio in a fast, easy and reliable way.

My hope is to contain the damage to my budget to about 1000 GBP.
I looked around most big electronics stores in Denmark (which is where I live) and the only options I managed to come up whith have been an HP pavillon, this one:
(sorry I'm too new to be allowed to post URLs)

or an even more boring looking Lenovo.
My friend (the one who suggested this forum to me) also sent me a link to the Mesh home page, and among the Mesh offers I found a few models that would perfectly answer to my needs, but for reasons ranging from guarantee issues to shipping and custom expenses, I prefer to avoid foreign web shops

Do you have any better suggestion?

Do I really have to buy an HP pavillon?

Welcome to the forum however this might be better off in the hardware section. More people to notice your post there.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

TBH,I would look at getting a Dell!

    Check this range out:

    http://www1.euro.dell.com/uk/en/home...=dhs&cs=ukdhs1

The main question you need to ask is whether you go for a socket 1366 Core i7 or socket 1156 Core i7.

Dell also have a Danish site too!!

Re: Is there no PC for me?

    Sorry! Double post!

The Dell computers in the link have socket 1366 Core i7 processors which should be better for your needs due to the fact that they use a triple channel memory controller as opposed to the dual channel memory controller of the socket 1156 Core i7 processors. The socket 1156 processors do have improved Turbo Boost though.

Re: Is there no PC for me?

    Thanx for the suggestion CAT
Yes, Dell is always an option, I thought about it also because that's what we use in the sweatshop where I earn my living.
My impression though is that its models are scarcely more exciting than the latest crop of HP and/or Acer w7 models, and once I have finished to add essential stuff like wifi card or dvd burner (which are standard on the models of every other producer) I end up with a system that offers nothing more and is 20-30% more expensive.
I have just retried and I came out with a configuration costing 1784 GBP.

At the momentthe best I have been able to find is an HP pavillon E035 SC (sorry I'm not yet allowed to post links) for 1138 GBP.
Nothing in the Dell's range seems to match its specs for an equivalent price
