    Wireless Adaptor and Workgroup Issues

Having some odd issues in windows 7 with my wireless adapter. I took some screenshots to illustrate.

Eveything seems fine here except for the fact that it should connect to my network automatically (mine is the 'other network' one as i hide the ssid)

It connects to the network and i get internet access except for some reason my adapter dissapears from the list

Now i lose internet and there is no way to reconect a my adaptor doesnt show up

What the hell is this miniport thing all about, when i remove it it just reinstalls itself.

My wireless router is being funny aswell, we set up a workgroup today so we can share the videos on the media centre, but everytime one person trys to play something from one computer to another the router dies and we all lose connection for a min or 2.
The router is a Zyxel P-660HN-F1Z.

Everything is up to date inc drivers and such on all PCs

Re: Wireless Adaptor and Workgroup Issues

Are you getting frequent disconnection and reconnection ? As I have experience that over the last few days.
I'm still at a loss as to why my problem is occurring, but it does sound similar to yours.

edit: sorry didn't see you had stated the router.

Re: Wireless Adaptor and Workgroup Issues

i reset the router to its factory defaults and now the other PCs in the house seem to work ok streaming too and from the media centre but for some reason when i try to look at others from my PC it gives me the whole you dont have permission malarky. I think its probably to do with the wierd adapter dissapearing thing still but i cant be sure.

As for what stopped the router from going wierd all the time, i think its either something to do with PnP. Il explore it more tomorrow.

Re: Wireless Adaptor and Workgroup Issues

You may be having problems because your router isn't broadcasting SSID, try turning on SSID broadcast and see if it works. There's little point hiding SSID as you can still easily see the access point, just make sure you have a strong key and use WPA2.

it isnt hidden anymore, the router issue seems to be ok now the main problem is the adapter thing on my PC, i just cant figure out why its being so wierd.

Do you have another adapter to try? Also try with a cable if you can to see if it's related to the card or not.

Re: Wireless Adaptor and Workgroup Issues

well the PC is in a different room and i dont have a cable so i guess i will have to drag my box in there tomorrow.

I have tried with another identical card but the same issues. Im fairly convinced its nothing to do with the card and its something to do with the crappy windows 7 networking features.

Re: Wireless Adaptor and Workgroup Issues

Turned on PnP today to see if that could be the issue... and it is. Seems wierd that PnP would make the router screw up over and over again though. Anyone any ideas as to whats goin on there?
Pretty sure that a number of games need PnP to be activated to work online which is a bit of a nutsack.

Adaptor seems to be connecting automatically now even though it isnt showing up so i have something even if it isnt ideal. Determined to figure out whats caused this and fix it or i might have to just do a damned rebuild.
