You can always setup WPA and MAC filtering on the router to be more secure.

    This! WEP though?...

Also can't you access the machine if they're on your network?

Re: Someone is using my internet! i have there mac and ip addy

First off, I'd suggest replacing your WEP encryption with any type of WPA if your AP supports it - far harder to break in to.

As for reporting it etc, I'm not sure if that'll help you at all - I'm not sure what the police can do for you.

If you wanted to try and find out who it is, you can find out the manufacturer of a Network Device with the first 6 characters of a MAC Address (xx:xx:xx:yy:yy:yy - search here with the first 6 characters of the address and see what vendor it comes up with).

If you know what hardware your neighbours have, it might give you a hint as to who was on your LAN that shouldn't have been, otherwise it'll be pretty useless!

Regardless the above, definitely use WPA!

Move to WPA and then don't worry about it any more?

Had the same problem with an Orinoco Gold Classic card, try searching for updated network drivers.

Re: Someone is using my internet! i have there mac and ip addy

    Things you can do.
    1) Go wired. 100% solution.
    2) Change your key.
    3) Use a stronger encryption than wep, WPA2/AES would be best, however not every device you have will support that. WEP is easy to break, WPA is acceptable, make them attack somewhere else.
    4) Use mac based filtering in your router... if they get on they could pretend to be one of your machines, however you would see that if you used the device as it would complain about it bitterly. (if you can't do mac based filtering make a device you have use the same as their MAC address, to blow it off the network.)
    5) Use a web proxy so every user has to sign into the web proxy before being allowed out.
    6) Change your SID, setup your devices then turn your sid off, combined with a key change hopefully they will not find you again.

I don't think the police would be interested.
Some cards have multiple Annetta so you can tell the direction, using software you could find out where its transmitting from, by making your computer the access point. No sure of the specific packages though.
Just get rid of them or put them through a proxy that grabs passwords and inverts pictures! Always fun.

I'd also changed the SSID and also if you can make it hidden so it's harder for them to find it

I've done this to my home network myself and locked down all the MAC addresses and the hack attempts to get into my wifi and dropped to zero as they can't see it any longer.

Change to WPA, use mac based filtering.

    Monitor your network...

Pretty much all you can do, or switch to wired... which isnt always feasible.

hmmm they would have cracked the wep key first - unless you did leave it open , in which case could the device have just auto connected ?

restricting by MAC is another layer but adds extra admin overhead + its relativly easy to spoof.

how? lol this is the second time they have connected to my network (i only assume it was them first time round) so theres a betting they will do it again! little.......

ive changed the name and also made it so anyone who connects has to be registered to the network before being allowed on it, one last thing i want to know is,

am i able to kick people of the network somehow? its one of them wireless boxs from o2

Out of curiosity, what could I used, from my own PC to check what devices are connected to the wireless other than the laptop and PC in the house that currently use it?
