    Canon MP610 and Bluetooth

    Hi,

I have a problem getting my laptop talking to my printer wirelessly via bluetooth dongles. Neither has built in bluetooth so I am using 2 of these things

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Micro-Blueto...0111679&sr=8-2

The laptop one went through some install process when I plugged it in so I guess its configured. It is running Vista if that is relevant.

Whereas the one in the printer is just plugged into the front USB port and I cannot see anywhere to configure it on the printer or through the PC it is connected to via USB.

When I try and add the printer device to the laptop it cant find anything to pair with so I guess somethings missing in the link setup somewhere

Should this work or am I missing something in the setup?

This isn't going to work. At all.

That USB post in the front of the printer is just for connecting PictBridge compatible cameras to. It is not a general purpose USB port, I don't think it can even take a USB pen drive.

    Re: Canon MP610 and Bluetooth

I wonder if I could connect it to the type B USB at the back with some converter?

I have found this expensive Canon version which is a type A although its not clear if it works with the MP610

    Re: Canon MP610 and Bluetooth

That is more likely to work than just a regular BT dongle. Remember that dongles like the one you linked to in your first post need drivers to work. You cannot install drivers on a printer. If they came with support built in that would be different.

That Cannon one is different, as the printer just thinks it is a regular USB connection, the dongle then does the work to tunnel the connection over BlueTooth.
