    Homeplugs

My router is situated upstairs. I am using 2 homeplugs in other upstairs rooms. I need to use a homeplug downstairs downstairs but I suspect this won't work being a different ring main. Is there anyway around this?

    Re: Homeplugs

Well, I would suggest trying it first - ie take one of your homeplugs from upstairs and move downstairs...

If that doesnt work and WiFi is out of the question are you able to just run some cable downstairs?

A shot in the dark. I have a spare router could I use 2 routers, ie one upstairs & one downstairs then use the homeplugs on the downstairs circuit with one router as well as upstairs circuit using the other router?

    Re: Homeplugs

If there's no connection between your upstairs and downstairs ring mains then having a router downstairs and one upstairs isn't going to solve that problem?

You wont be able to use two routers simultaneously on the same phone line if that is what you were suggesting?

Thanks. Ah well it looks like I'll have to make do with poor wireless in that case.

Is running an ethernet cable not an option? It's generally better than wireless if you can... then you can always plug your 2nd router in and have it acting as a Wireless Access Point downstairs.

    Re: Homeplugs

Did you try the homeplug in only one plug downstairs?

Tried the homeplug setup as well and it did not work on certain plugs downstairs but on others it did. (go figure, im a techie not an electrician) The plug might not be near to where you want it but it might be easier to run a cable from the homeplug.

Ditto. We must have the same electrician.
Also, if I plug my homeplug into multi-block upstairs, I can't connect to it downstairs, even using the working upstairs plugs. It's worth trying every combination.
... I use now a big vent for the whole machine now, but I cant use it forever, it is my grandma's ventilator...
