    Question LAN Bandwidth monitoring?

Ok, in our house we have a rule of no downloading till like midnight, some people decide not to listen to these rules.

How can i monitor what PC is doing the downloading? i dont mind setting up a dedicated PC for a router or whatever. But whats the best and cheapest way of doing this?

I had a stab at this a while ago, I used wrtbwmon on my Buffalo G300NH running DD-WRT.

You'll need a router capable of running a Linux OS such as xWRT, Tomato etc with enough extra capacity to store and run scripts.

PRTG Network Monitor may be a free, quick and easy solution assuming you have a box that you can run 24/7, dependent on what info you can pull from your router. If not then you're probably going to have to set up some sort of proxy and run all traffic through there.
