XP Cant map a network drive

Ok so here is a rundown of my situation

I have a PC with Windows 7 Pro connected to my router, All the drives are shared.
I have VMware on that with a XP VM to download on (its a long story why its a VM, but it works the best)
I did a fresh install of the VM last night, as the old one was about 4 years old
halfway through the night the XP VM stopped seeing my network shares, and i can add them again.
Nothing changed at all, and everything was on.

It just gets stuck here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6017469/Rand...2/Untitled.png

Any ideas on why this has happened? or what i can try? i have tried the obvious stuff

Check Windows firewall settings allow file and print sharing through - on a new install it is set not to by default.

Either DNS, firewall, DNS, netbios, DNS or TCP offloading. Or maybe DNS. Or maybe the computer browser service is stopped.

Also, don't do browsing that way. Use \\ip.ip.ip.ip if at all possible, then peruse the shares. Netbios sucks.

Your machine is definitely in the Workgroup called "workgroup", right? If so, check this

Re: XP Cant map a network drive

Was faffing for an hour and couldn't get it going, just reinstalled it again and made sure to take a snapshot this time

Thanks for the help anyway, i looked and it seems everything was still running. And everything was set right and in the right workgroup, after all it was connected in the first place.

Re: XP Cant map a network drive

Something I've found works with XP machines is to share a folder on that machine, then on the Win7 machine connect to the shared folder. Then, as if by magic, I can often connect to shared folders from the XP machine.

No idea why it works, but has done where a restart hasn't solved things.
