New set up, but need advice!

Short story- Parents have gone with sky, but I will be staying with VM.

Now my set up at the moment is-

Modem > wireless router > wired to a power line adapter > then from another power line adapter in my room to my pc.

Now I don't want to leave my connection without a router ( or will there no difference if I left the router out?)

So as the home pc will now have a sky router, i'm thinking of moving the belkin router to my room. The set up would look like this-

modem > power line adapter > my rooms power line adapter > wireless router > my pc.

Now would that work? Just unsure if the wireless router would work the same if connected to the powerline, and not firstly tot he modem?

Don't really need the router in my room but was not sure if I loose some security ?

    Cheers

I think that should work fine to be honest.

Should work, but would only use the router if you are connecting more than one device, otherwise leave it out, only serves to complicate your connection

Violence and Lubrication is the solution to fixing everything, if it still doesn't work, you need more lubrication.

Keep the router and put the powerline networking bits between the modem & the router:

Virgin Fibre -> Modem -> Powerline Networking Adapters -> WAN port on Router

Then connect your devices as before

Thanks! So basically modem > power line adapter > my rooms power line adapter > wireless router > my pc ? But the wireless function should work as normal ?

Yup, exactly that. The modem is being connected to the router, albeit via powerline adapters rather than straight ethernet.

But I now have to deal with a rubbish sky router :| Try to change anything on it is a bit like starting WW3, so no touching the mac address control just changed the admin password. Cheers again!

Re: New set up, but need advice!

One quick question- If I added a port switch between the modem and the first power line adapter, would everything still work ok? The reason being is that i don't think the wireless signal to the home pc is stable enough, and so was thinking of connecting it onto my VM network.

Re: New set up, but need advice!

Would need to be connected after the router to be part of the network and for NAT etc to work. The Modem is on the WAN side of the router, not the LAN side.
