I think with 90% of broadband services there will be problems. Some of the smaller offerings that are run by small companies can be great for avoiding frustrating levels of burocracy, but the lack of staff to support you can be a problem. Bigger companies may always have staff ready for you to talk too, unless there is some big nationwide outage or something, but there are problems brought into that with different levels and segregation of authority within the company. I suppose this is true of most industries in the greater scheme of things but for me it seems much closer to the surface with ISPs.
One thing i will say is that virgins service is fantastic, until it isnt, then your in for months of arguments and long difficult phone calls with frustratingly inept staff
S'not a bad deal, is it
I know I won't be getting the full speed that should be on offer (my line tops out at ~ 48down, 9up) but for less money and more bandwidth I'm not going to complain. Interesting that they've now upped the basic package to 40/10, but with the 80/20 only being £19.99 I reckon that's a damn good deal generally (let alone for those of us not having to take a new 18 month contract!).
Given my family's average monthly downloads are around 40GB, it's a bit moot for me, but I couldn't risk dropping back to the standard fibre product at that point, and this way I have huge overhead in case I suddenly decide to download every steam game I own to ever computer in the house (or something mad like that ). Now to get the static IP address and start hosting my own websites and email server
£5 one off fee, AFAIK. If you log in to the portal and click "add-ons" it should be available there.
Oh. Apparently if you click the "Add now" button next to static IP, it does it without any further confirmations! So I now have a static IP!
And yeah, it just adds the £5 fee to your next bill. Which is fine for me, because my next bill was already £5 cheaper because of ditching Pro. So all's well, eh
