FTTC = Fiber To Cabinet (can't guess at the other T), so BT have up-rated the supply to the cabinets I guess? So it's just the same as/similar to, my current VM cable connection? Does that mean it doesn't make too much of a difference how far I am from the exchange?

I tried the BT Infinity checker but it was giving me similar results to the ZEN result. Mind you I am not on BT telephone service; maybe that has something to do with it.

Edit: Not that I'm going to change, just curious

You're going to kick youself. Fibre To THE Cabinet. After that it's VDSL to the home.
Because it runs the 'last mile' on copper, speeds will decrease the further from the cabinet you are.

VM is a hybrid network of fibre and co-axial cable (the TV aeriel (sp?) stuff). Coax dosn't lose speed over distance the way xDSL does, so it can offer consistently higher speeds. If you live within a couple of hundred metres from a cabinet though, I don't think you'd notice the difference.

FTTC or BT Infinity has not been rolled out everywhere although the government has plans to do so. Personally, I'm not holding my breath as I live in the sticks.

    Hahahaha..............doh! slaps face. Thanks Phage

I had to go to the Post Office after reading this; it's a 2 mile round trip and I kicked myself all the way there and back

More seriously; I found thinkbroadband.com and signed up so I could use their broadband quality meter. Here's my result for the last 24hrs:

Is this a typical VM looking chart? I don't like the look of the latency spikes .... UGLY!

Looks fairly standard to me - basically VM oversell their product so you get contention at busy times, which slows your connection down. Network latency is always going to spike occasionally.

Your average latency peaks at around 40ms, with maximum latency peak over 150ms, and minimum down at 20ms. Given your average is in the low end of the range, that suggests that most of the time the latency will be down under 50ms.
