    Semi wireless?

Just out with my parents in Portugal, my dad has a fully networked system with ADSL in his study, running three pc’s and so on.

He also has a laptop and would like to have an internet connection on that around the house, so wireless would be the choice, now can he get some sort of wireless device that will plug into his existing router and then a wireless pcima card ? or does he need to replace his existing router?

    Thanks in advance

    Jim

What he needs is a straight wireless access point. If his laptop doesn't have wireless built in already, I recommend the Linksys WAP54G for the access point and Linksys Wireless G PCMCIA card for the laptop. Both solid pieces of kit. Yes, there are cheaper versions, but I've used these at multiple sites and they're as reliable as half a brick in a sock. Dabs do the AP for £50.99 inc VAT and the card for £41.12.
