    Virgin Media price increase

I've just received an email from VM saying from 1st Feb 2013, my monthly price will increase by £2.84.
I'm currently on small phone, broadband recently increased "free-of-charge" from 20MB to 60MB. From memory, my monthly bill is around £35, so that's around a 8% increase...

Annoyingly, they don't say where the price increase is coming from (phone, broadband, extra services)

    Anyone else received the news?

It's to pay for the speed increase - 'free' - what a load of cobblers.

I am £4.09 a month and I have a Tivo box with XL package, 2nd box in bedroom. 60Meg broadband, phone.

Not to bad considering but £4.09 is £4.09 none the less

    Everything else has went up.....

Goes to call boss for pay rise.

Ah bugger, this will sting me by quite a bit then. XL TIVO & second box and large broadband.

With being made recently redundant, and hoping to move house round then... could this allow me to quit them without their fees?

    Re: Virgin Media price increase

I have not received a letter yet but I will be very peed off if it goes up... when I originally had virgin we were going to get another price rise, now I am on a new contract with XL BB (60mb, still waiting on my 6mb flipping upload, keeps getting pushed back!) XL TV and XL Phone with an extra virgin HD box (cheaper to take the damn thing) and we are paying around £46 p/m so this means it will go up to £50, for another 14 months.

I NEVER UNDERSTAND THE POINT IN A CONTRACT THESE DAYS FML.

Its like going on the british gas fixed rates for 1 or 2 years then coming back to you in 2 months saying oh sorry but price rise, bills going up by 100% even though we agreed the other price.

I understand inflation in terms of affecting the contract price but if that was the case my bill should only be increasing by £1.24... Why are the companies allowed to do this? How can a contract really be a contract if the only way it works is telling you that you cant leave and they can charge whatever they want.

Why cant OFCOM do something useful and stop this.

    Re: Virgin Media price increase

Give VM a call, tell them that because of this price rise and whatever deal Sky is offering, you're thinking of dropping VM entirely. I did that in the summer and they gave me £10 off per month, valid for 12 months. Apparently they give £5/month discount to anyone who asks, so long as they've been a customer for more than 1 year, and there's an extra £5/month discount they can give at the call handler's discretion.

    Re: Virgin Media price increase

Our bill is going up by nearly £4 a month... I wouldn't mind too much, but the internet service has been terrible since they upgraded us from 10Mb to 30Mb. We hardly ever get a 30Mb connection and the WIFI connection is rubbish (they gave us a new 'super hub' which seems worse than the old normal hub ). Virgin used to be brilliant not so long ago, but now we constantly get capped and i'm sure youtube video's shouldn't always be buffering with a 30Mb fibre optic connection.

We used to be with SKY a couple of years ago, but their TV signal was absolutely crap (especially in windy or rainy weather)... I wonder if they've improved lately? The only issue is having to pay BT for phoneline rental on top of paying SKY (it could work out more expensive than Virgin).

    Re: Virgin Media price increase

I'm still in my first year with VM. Infinity's now available in my area so I think I might cancel an go for the VDSL2 option if it's similar in price and doesn't have outrageous set up fees.

i never use the telephone, but they always insist that you get a phone line.

If only i could remove it, i would save probably £12 a month

You don't have to have a phone line - I don't have one. It can be beneficial though as you can get extra discounts based on having the phone service.

Yeah - got the mail too. Mine goes up by just under £3. On the upside, it caused me to log into the site and find out that I'm entitled to the 60Mb upgrade and superhub.
