how flexible new phone line socket position

Hi getting a new phone line in and was wondering how flexible they are for the position of the master socket.

Reason for asking is I have all my cat cables from each room going up to the attic next to the server ( this was where the old vm cable router was ) then I had a phone line from there down to the sitting room.

So what would you advise I could get away with

    Thanks

Depends on policy but normally master socket would be fitted within about 2 mtrs of entry into building unless you pay for additional internal wiring to be provided. Also depends if entry is overhead (in which it maybe convenient for engineer to take cable in via loft) or underground (in which case it would probably come in through the wall at a low house level, agh maybe a couple of mtrs unless you pay for extra internal wiring. As i say it's down to policy at the time and also flexibility of fitting engineer.

If you need something specific I've found the best bet is to phone and ask or ask when ordering. Don't wait for the engineer to show up. Give them a bell.

Be nice the engineer when he comes and ask politely offering him a little something for his troubles.
They will decline the offer and depending on work load might help you out.

In my own case I had lines to my attic for the same reason as you. I have had quite a number of lines put in over the last few years both for myself and for clients. In all cases (with BT/Openreach) the engineer has installed the master socket where I wanted it. Just make sure the physical access is as clear as possible.
