Hey all
I was a happy customer of BE then o2 (same network, different speeds and packages) for ADSL LLU, got around 17mbit p/s, went up to almost 20 with the new o2 box some time ago. I was on the legacy unlimited plan with o2 as well, but it was around £16 a month + line rental which is 'expensive' these days.
I figured I could get FTTC for around that so switched to sky, did it at work in a hurry, thought I was signing up correctly but they switched me to their ADSL product, annoying*. Still it was much cheaper monthly, and similar on paper, so fine - or so I thought.
I've had a couple of issues with it really:
- Speed. It's slower, especially during peak times. I had around 200k down on Sunday afternoon, websites were noticeably slow to load if they loaded at all.
- Reliability. I had a line fault, not Sky's fault but the BT guy came and fixed it (turns out internal :/) though now I get occasional drops and my sync has dropped from 18mbps to around 13 (not that I get that!).
I'm thinking of switching to the FTTC on Sky now, I can do it on this contract (otherwise I'm tied for 12 months) and it's not a lot more. But if I don't do that, what's the best way to resolve the above issues? My guess is that there's nothing I can do about the contention but since they let their ADSL2 network get this bad it puts me off the FTTC. Are they on the same backhaul or not?
Thanks you knowledgeable chaps!
*yes this is fail, embarrassed thinking about it
