    Windows 7 can't see networked HDD - howcum?

    Hi;

    This is getting frustrating.

    After some HDD problems and having to swap out some big drives I decided I'd load Windows 7 and see if I could learn how to exploit it. Unfortunately, I bumped into Windows 7 local area networking.

    My old setup was based on XP SP3 and I set it up so that I could use specific HDDs for specific purposes: i.e. drive "D" on machine "A" is for photos and drive "D" on machine "B" is for books I'm working on. This allows me to move from the capabilities of one machine to different capabilities on another machine. I do not use the Users folders that windows provided.

    Now that I've got Windoz 7 installed, I've got a huge problem. I can share printers and the Windoz-specified folder but I can't get it to share "drive D" on any machine.

    I tried a homegroup but that didn't work. I removed the homegroup from all machines and then I built a workgroup. I got all of the drives to show up on other machines but, again, I can't get beyond the printer and "User folder" to actually access a drive on another machine.

    What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?????

    Thanks for the help.

    After struggling with this for the past three weeks, I've finally stumbled across the solution.

    This url:

    http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...rmissions.html

    took a different tack to the same problem and came up a winner. The secret is to set permissions in security on the disk drive and _then _ share it.

    Follow the instructions in the url. Works a charm.
