    Windows 7 Lan>USB Transfer Issue

Has anyone else noticed an issue with Windows when copying files from say a NAS to a local USB drive, where data flows then pauses, flows then pauses? In task manager, the network graph looks something like this -_-_ if that makes sense. And of course the USB HDD LED will flash then stop, etc.

Transferring either to a SATA HDD works fine i.e. continuous as expected.

It's as though Windows is buffering each 'chunk' of data locally before writing it out, but it's really annoying as it's essentially halving the available transfer speed or worse.

I have always found copying off the network directly to USB always a lot slower than copying to say the desktop and then to USB.

I haven't looked into why though.
