Question NEW ISP or NEW ROUTER?

HI so here is my problem the router that my ISP gave me is not even worth it my ISP is SKY uk so here is what i have done.
    i got a hold of a from a m8

    http://www.ebuyer.com/391513-asus-du...FfHMtAod9k0AMA

and because i only know a bit about router set-ups i ask a good friend around to help who know how to do all of this after he set it all up i played with it like on-line gaming (PC/PS3) and i was host every time will downloading on utorrent at 8.6MBs and had all phone and tablets on it witch was great even sending file to my Nas was super fast
As most of you all know sky don't allow you to have your own router and my girlfriend just just upgraded the sky so a new router from sky the (SR101) witch there is no hack out yet for pulling your user id and password off this router the only reason why im with sky is because it is the fastest were i live on cable not fibre as fibre is not here yet

    My Questions
Should i get ride of SKY and got with BT or another ISP or should hold on for a hack to get the user name and password ?

What router would you say is the best bang for the money?

Spec the router need to handle

Wifi For and das fast as it can

    mac book pro
    apple TV
    iPhone 4s and 5s
    note 2/3
    ps3 and ps4
    Samsung smart tv x2

lan for and must be Gigabit

    gaming desktop pc
    NAS
    work desktop pc
and have to more nic for the wall-plug nic

Any Help on this would be greatfull

Re: NEW ISP or NEW ROUTER?

thats a very good router, but if you're on wired connections for your main bandwidth intensive stuff you should be fine with the standard sky router (I had one of the grey boxs and it was fine with the nas wired in and everything else on wifi.

Theres nothing stopping you getting a shiny new router and just sticking it in ap mode though, I know that ASUS router definitely supports it. It basically just becomes a wifi hotspot then.

Re: NEW ISP or NEW ROUTER?

I'm with VM now, which is much better, but then its also 20 times faster so it would be.

Easier to configure a new router in access point mode than the sky one in modem mode.

It is possible to retrieve your Sky password from the SR101, it's what I did to allow me to use my Asus RT-N66U router. It's a bit of a faff though, & involves using port sniffing software to do so. Unless you're willing to do a bit of Googling & such, I'd recommend using the SR101 in conjunction with your other router.

Re: NEW ISP or NEW ROUTER?

reasons to stay with sky -> if you're planning to switch ISPs and not buy a new router then chances are the router you get won't be very good unless you are switching to virgin media fibre option

reasons to leave sky -> i recall when i was with sky the upstream was capped at 0.6mbps even with 8mbps downstream, i'm not sure if they have capped yours but judging from the adslguide.org forums people say you will get 1mbps when downstream speeds are around 10mbps
