Bt Infinity enabled exchange but unable to get it?

    A quick one from me.

The estate I'm moving to had it's phone lines directly connected to the exchange due to it being maybe 1-2 miles away (20 years ago). The exchange itself is enabled for BT Infinity but it cannot get it according to BT or other fibre providers.

Is there anyway you can get BT to resolve this or is it basically impossible short of doing FTTH?

    Cheers,
    Paul.

Its the same situation as I have, my exchange is fibre enabled but only select areas seem to have it, I question BT regarding my area and they said they wouldn't be upgrading the cabinets near me, ever. That was nice of them I thought.

You can write to them to ask them or there is a form on their website you can complete but think thats going to be your lot.

Ok, thanks for the info. My parents are on the same estate and only found out about the way they're connected as my dad's friend is a BT engineer.

Re: Bt Infinity enabled exchange but unable to get it?

if it's directly connected to the exchange presumably the space in the exchange to install the fibre kit is the issue?

It isn't a space issue. With FTTC the connection goes over fibre between the exchange and the cabinet then over copper to your house. With direct exchange lines there's no cabinet and no fibre run so you're running on copper the whole distance. I don't understand though why you wouldn't get nice internet speeds though as it's entirely possible that the cab-premises distance could be the same as the exchange-premise distance for direct exchange lines.

BT are apparently working on a solution for that but I've not heard anything about it.

Sorry I misread the original post so most of my post is irrelevant.

We have FTTC out here... except we're too small a group to bother extending fibre to our particular cab.
I can flippin' well *walk* to my house from the exchange faster than a signal can travel along the line!!

I am in the other situation. All our cabs are in and making noise but our exchange isn't enabled.

I wasn't able to get broadband from companies I would actually want it from. Second you quote the postcode they say nah. Exchange too full. Still send you mailshot advertising spam though.

Great place to find out if your cabinet has planned works on it is http://roadworks.org.

Anything that's NGA related is to do with fibre, and if your cabinet has planned works then its probably gonna happen for sure.

Use this link, it will tell you which cabinet you're connected to and will tell you if and when it will go live.
