Linksys got as many of the team responsible for the WRT54G to make this beast: http://store.linksys.com/Linksys-WRT...VVviewprod.htm

    Model: Linksys WRT1900AC
    Technology: Wireless-N & AC
    Processor: 1.2 GHz dual-core ARM-based
    Ports: 4 x Gigabit LAN, 1 x Gigabit WAN, 1 x USB 3.0 + 1x eSATA/USB 2.0
    Memory: 128MB Flash, 256MB DDR3 RAM
    Wireless:802.11b: up to 11 Mbps, 802.11a/g: up to 54 Mbps, 802.11n (2.4 GHz): up to 600 Mbps, 802.11ac (5 GHz): up to 1.3 Gbps, Simultaneous Dual-Band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Next-Generation Wireless-AC Technology For Powerful Networking.

I so can't wait to get my grubby hands on one, and I am looking forward to see what they do with the firmware this time

For the price they're asking, you could pay one of your servants to bring the internet to your house

AC routers are still pretty expensive, they'll come down when more devices are available to use them. That said: made by Belkin nowadays, so I've no interest whatsoever (outside of the fact that I'm using a home built pfsense box these days which does all I need and more)

    Re: WRTs are back!!!

Surely the problem with custom firmware is that this is ARM not MIPS. And even with MIPS there are driver considerations too. For instance, Tomato generally only works on Broadcom MIPS not Ralink or Realtek (don't think much works on Realtek actually), while OpenWRT and DD-WRT seem to have broader firmware support.

Bit ironic that Linksys are trying to exploit the WRT54G's name since AFAIK they only release the source after the FSF took action against them. Which is how most of the firmware projects started.
