    Firefox Crashing A Lot

    Hi all,

For the past couple of days now my Firefox which was rock soiled is now crashing two or 3 times a day.

Not sure which version it is as can't find an about any more, but it does auto update it's self now and then.

It crashes at random times from just following a link on Google to watching a video and just typing on a forum, yes it crashed on here. The only plugin I have is a McAfee site adviser but have had the same setup for quite a bit.

Anyone else having troubles, should a manual update or is this a part of a bigger problem?

Click Help>About Firefox to get version and update check.

    Re: Firefox Crashing A Lot

Does it crash in Safe Mode (Hold Shift down while you click FF's icon to start it up)?

(Alt) Help > Troubleshooting information: on the right side, do you have a button for "Reset Firefox"?

If it's that old, it could be Profile corruption.

Possibly some errant 3rd Party .dll is loading with it and causing the crashes.

Have you updated any 3rd Party Plugins, such as Flash recently (you really should, you know, if you really need them - but only from trusted sources, I always check Corrine's Blog: http://securitygarden.blogspot.co.uk/ currently Flash updates, info, direct links, uninstaller, etc. is in the 2nd article down the page)?

You could also install Pale Moon to test whether it's something affecting Mozilla -based browsers or something more specific to your setup/Profile. http://www.palemoon.org/

<McAfee Site Advisor = chocolate teapot. Last time I checked it, the free version was a minimum of 6 months outdated in terms of website 'checks' done, I doubt the pay version, if it still exists, is much better>

    Re: Firefox Crashing A Lot

I've got exactly the same. It crashes a lot when I visit HUKD specially.

I've used it since V1 pretty much, but I've had to move to Chrome for the moment. Even starting a new profile / removing the old one with a reinstall hasn't fixed it. Fairly sure it's something with the current build as it happens at work too (but not on my laptop :|)

    Re: Firefox Crashing A Lot

i find Firefox seems to go in stages, vastly prefer it to chrome or explorer, but every few builds it seems to become unstable, usually getting a Not Responding error. After a week or 2 some update comes out and its rock solid again.
Im pretty much willing to forgive this as its not as invasive as Chrome and less cluttered and clunky than IE.

Tried in safe mode all is ok, I have had troubles with McAfee Site Advisor in the past it came with the anti virus. Have found it useful in the past, but saying that it is grayed out at the moment.

It is hard to reproduce the crashes, a link from YouTube = crash but try again all is fine. Will now check flash is up to date.

Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox?

I am starting to suspect that there might be a issue with either the last flash build or Java [not sure if HDUK uses Java at all] because this was happerning to me quiet a bit. I ended up taking FF / Flash / Java off this machine, scrubbing all trace from reg and then installing afresh; that seems to have now stoped it crashing.

I just need to try and find out whats causing FF to use 1.5 to 2 GB of ram which then seems to cause browsing to slow down to a dial-up speeds.

Mine has been ok for a couple of days now, since I added the plugin "adblocker" I was hunting around on the web for more help, I saw someone that was talking about how all the flash base adverts was causing a overload esp on YouTube and eBay where I was getting the most crashes.

I understand the need for adverts and want to support the pages that have them, but I think some are so lazy encoded they just crash FireFox. Plus pages just pop up for me now and not just load, which in the past even with my 80/20 internet never happen.
