YouTube Videos No Longer Playing

Hello all,

I hope this is the right place for this.

Since late yesterday when I try to watch a video on YouTube it just comes up with the buffering icon, I have tried FireFox and Chrome with both fully updated and the same with flash. This is also happening on my phone as well. When using the YouTube app on my Android Samsung Note 2

I have also found that Google is very slow to open as well. "google.co.uk" which I know is linked into YouTube.

This is driving me crazy and just can't work out why, almost like my router is blocking the sites.

Any help is most welcome.

Internet speed is 80 down 20 up.

Definitely sounds like a network issue. I assume you've tried reseting your router? Or at least turning it off and on again?

Both reset and a full power cycle, still having problems. Viewing another video site all the videos play well.

Works fine here, although I find eevblog far too rambly for my tastes.

Just tried using the another laptop and still the same problem.

You wouldn't happen to be on BT Infinity would you? I'm having the same issue. None of my devices allow YT to function properly. If i use my phones mobile data then it works but wired or wireless with infinity doesn't work on anything. Thats PS3, PS4, phone, PC and tablet. Weird.

Are you connected to your router via wireless or wired for your main machine? Obviously your phone is wireless. If it's wireless have you tried a wired connection?

Everything is wired other than my phone. As the OP, YT was fine up until last night. Today it won't play 90 percent of the content regardless wired or otherwise. It's definitely a BT issue. I just can't bring myself to suffer their outbound call centre and be told the fault isn't theirs.

Here is the cause of the fault:



1. The sub-domain for googlevideo that is trying to load the content in my case is:

(spaces so that I could submit the post!)


2. This resolves to:

3. This IP is owned by BT Internet (BT must have a hosting deal with YouTube)

6. Depending on the DHCP (dynamic) IP you have from BT will depend on which routes you take inside thier network.



This will work for some BT customers, and not for others.

Depending on the video, and where its hosted (inside BT or with Google directly) will depend on wether the content will load correctly.



7. Only BT can fix this problem.

It's affecting Google Play on my smartphone too. None of my apps will update using wifi. I have to switch to mobile data.

Definitely a complaint to BT, although trying to speak to someone technical who knows what you're talking about will be a challenge

It looks like it has cleared now, I am using BT Infinity and wired or wifi at the time no device would connect properly to YouTube. I tried PC, laptop, Phone, iPod Touch, toaster and PS3

Thanks for the help guys, but looks like this was in the hands of the ISP gods.
