Replace BT Home Hub for third party router?

Simple enough question which I have a feeling is a stupid one. If I wanted to replace my BT home hub for a more advanced third party router, can it be done?

I mean just because I'm with BT, it doesn't mean I have to use their equipment right?

And while I'm here, whats the best third party router out there, in terms of wireless connectivity/distance covered, if indeed I can use my own equipment.

Yes you can. I've done the same thing.

I chose a Netgear R7000 Nighthawk, but there are many great options to choose from depending on your requirements and budget.

Re: Replace BT Home Hub for third party router?

I've just fitted a Draytek 2860 dual mode (adsl/vdsl) modem/router, so if you are on plain old ads and looking to upgrade, this will switch over seamlessly between the two.

Otherwise if your are already using a vdsl service and have something like a bit home hub with an integrated modem, you can use something like a Draytek 2832.

There are other less expensive modem routers in Draytek range that do the same job, but may have fewer facilities, so read the specs and choose accordingly!
