According to this page, the usage allowances aren't introduced until 1st June?

I hope this actually mean signed up, because although our line was supposed to be activated on the 16th (a day before this), it didn't get done until the 20th.

But I'm sure I'm fine because it DOES say signed up .

Not unless you want the line back to full speed.

So it's not that bad really. If you only go over the cap in the last few days of the month it should be fine (for me at least I think). I'd hate it for the net to just "run out".

Is there anyway of telling how close to your download cap you are?

    - We've just got a 512mb multiuser BT conection, which i beleve has a 15gb/month cap on it?
    - And what happens to if you go over it?

Its just, i've been using it quite heavly, and lsiteing to a lot of streaming audio, and im worryed in gunna hit the cap and get cut off or something.

    thanks, daniel

Unfortunately the capping is due to....you guessed it BT (wholesale) and OFCOM. They used to sell 'standard charging' connections to ISP's for unlimited 50:1 connections, which is why ADSL cost a bit for a year or two. Now they are based on CBC which works out about 0.52p per GB while providers charge more (overheads etc) hence the capping as overuse of connections would cost the isp more than the customer subscription charge.

Read this for more info: http://www.adslguide.org.uk/newsarchive.asp?item=2111

For the time being it looks like capping will be here to stay.

EDIT: the only unlimited providers seem to be AOL and Pipex atm :/ Kinda defeats the point of broadband, backwards Britian - here we go again....

Back on topic, usually uploads and downloads are included in caps, however every ISP is different. For example, my ISP Plus.net charge me £39.99 for a 2Mb connection which (from April onwards) is subject to a 75GB peak time (8am-1am) download cap, uploads are unmetered at all times and downloads are unmetered between 1am-8am (talk about complicated) - TBH though these limits are very generous IMHO

is there a way for telewest / blueyonder customers to publicly praise them for nto haveing caps on theyre service as im gonna get 4mb connection soon well i will if there is no capping , and so far they havent shown any signs of it

the thinking behind this is that if enough people thank blueyonder for not haveing caps in place then maybe they will use our comments as marketing material and therfore not put caps in atall ?

which would in turn have to make other isp's change how they opperate and loosen these caps ?
