    BT ultra fast

I like having all the speed and I've been happy at 72down 15up for a good few years. (£34mnth)

There's only me that really hammers the connection. 2 young kids on iPlayer and youtubekids and mum watches the same as me.

For 45mnth i can have the ultrafast 2 package but why?

I cannot think of a proper reason to spend an extra £120 a year. I think it's faster than my VPN and Usenet so for " getting things " it's not really going to any quicker.

    Am I missing something?

I think most people only really *need* a basic adsl package.

I work from home a lot, and 40Mbps was ok for that. I only really upgraded to 80Mbps when the kids were playing a lot of Minecraft and I wanted the 20Mbps upload speed so they could have a home Minecraft server to play with their friends.

Only the marketing hype that uses speed as a driver for up-selling!

If your current connection is delivering all you require, then there is no reason to change. If you were downloading very large files very often, that might be a reason to change, but if you are only occasionally downloading larger files, does it make that much difference if it takes 5 minutes instead of 10? (10 minutes gives time to make a cuppa!

If upload speed is important (for example you were streaming a live video) that might be an influencing factor.

But from your use case description, I can’t see any compelling reason to change.

I'm on 200mb download and 12 mb upload and I would say that yes things download quicker but as above does it really matter providing it doesn't take hours? My problem is my upload speed, I wish I was nearer 20mb

    Re: BT ultra fast

Currently debating BT for the new house as I can't get Virgin Media. We are not looking for any tv package as we are often using iPlayer, Netflix or Amazon.

    ULTRAFAST FIBRE PLUS
    Your download speed 150Mb
    Your Stay Fast Guarantee 100Mb
    Upload speed 30Mb

    £54.99 a month
    Includes BT line rental
    18 month contract, then £59.99 a month

    ULTRAFAST FIBRE 2 PLUS
    Your download speed 300Mb
    Your Stay Fast Guarantee 150Mb
    Upload speed 49Mb

    £59.99 a month
    Includes BT line rental
    18 month contract, then £64.99 a month

Anyone on the 300Mb package, how is it? Is it consistent?

Talktalk offer their G.fast service if you happen to live in a supported area. It's £40 / month for 145 down / 25 up. But then it is Talktalk...
