    Network noob needs advice...

    Hi,

I'm pretty new to home networking, and I've got the simplest home network possible: 1 desktop PC with win xp pro, one laptop with win xp pro and one cross-over cable.

Through a combination of network setup wizard, and manual jiggery pokery, I've got the networking side of things setup but for some reason I cannot seem to share my adsl connection...The laptop can access files on the desktop and vice versa and the internet connection works on the desktop.

The desktop lan connection has an ip and subnet values and the laptop has ip, subnet and gateway values. The adsl connection is shared and all connections are firewalled with the win firewall and norton and Ive added the ip and subnet of the laptop to the trusted zone in norton.

If i change any of the settings either the network goes or the adsl connection disappears on the desktop as well!

Any help or advice would be appreciated
