    Re: broadband gone to cack?

oh definitely we encounter it semi-frequently on some of our sites. Most are screened by ex-army vets now operating in a private capacity as part of the risk-assessment desk study process. Where there is a risk multiple levels of intervention follow. And if you find something - well large areas get evacuated and measures taken.

re who does it - we have definitely had army officers dispose of ex German WWII bombs that were dropped from the Luftwaffe so I don't think it's quite that simple a divide between the specialisms.

Virgin media has been slow and unreliable since the end of last week for me. I'm getting between 10-50% of the speed I pay for and it jumps around all the time :/

Something big is definately slagged. Websites and other services are failing as well.

That could be something local, I'm not aware of any ongoing national issues and purely anecdotally, I've not noticed any issues since.

    Re: broadband gone to cack?

I’m also on Virgin and of late it’s been pretty rubbish, was going on and off over the last weekend and start of the week.

Virgin seem to work on the model of least maintenance until people start complaining, then they’ll ignore you for a full year before putting a fix in but the fix is only short term so within the year it will start to exhibit the same problems that you complained about 2 years ago. Then the cycle begins all over again.

    Re: broadband gone to cack?

When you look at how long it took them to acknowledge the puma chipset problem in the hub3, then how long it took to find a "fix" and release that "fix" etc etc. Some of what you're saying makes sense.

outrageous! What kind of 2nd rate country would permit such impertinent incompetence? The ISP MD should be taken to the public square, made to offer a public apology and flogged for good measure. I'm glad we live in a country that doesn't tolerate such failings... oh,no wait....what's that? We do? FFS

    Re: broadband gone to cack?

I'm on TalkTalks network indirectly via my energy supplier. We had issues during April & May & speed caps.
This has completely settled down in the last 3 weeks I'd say. Not had to reboot router or experience painfully slow download speeds. At one point our uploads were faster than downloads...

I can only assume this was due to suddenly everyone working/being at home and doing high bandwidth stuff Netflix etc...

Virgin is great and unbeatable when it works, but it's that 'when it works' that was a rarity when I was with them even on their top package, nothing but constant issues, wouldn't be going back in a hurry. One thing I recommend with Virgin is putting it into Modem only mode and using your own equipment. It's a huge shame that you can't remove the Virgin equipment altogether.

    Re: broadband gone to cack?

Ah that would explain my outage I had yesterday!
