Router recommendations

So my BT HomeHub 5 5ghz band doesn't work. BT are giving me the run around blaming it on a local technical fault in the area which has no relevance and my internet is working fine... Before i call them AGAIN tomorrow and try to get a replacement i thought i'd check out what routers you guys would recommend. My only requirements would be VDSL support and something with bandwidth settings for different users would be nice.

We have a router from Asus (DSL-AC52U AC750), which is compatible with VDSL. It has a very good price-performance ratio.

Digressing to start with, sorry. So for years I've used Netgear but three years back hit some stability issues with the D7800. So decided to invest in a more robust router.
Got a Billion Bipac 8900AX, not cheap, but the stability is amazing, and the tweakability is extensive as well, will more than meet your requirements. The range on the 5Ghz band seems short, to me, but the 2.4Ghz covers the entire house and thirty foot of the garden.

I recently purchased a Synology combo of the RT2200ac and MR2200ac, with the MR acting as a mesh wifi-point.
I've been really happy with it, the management is great and the wifi coverage having 2 access points is spectacular. We've got the MR connected with an ethernet backhaul for maximum bandwidth, but it should run just fine with a Wi-Fi Backhaul if you can't get a cable to it.

You can also use either as a standalone router, so if you don't need multiple APs the RT2200ac is a great pick for a single router too IMO.
