3 pc's set up on a lan going throug ha vigor 2200 USB. I have been palying games all day today and have had pings of about 50 odd which is ok for 1mb line. My flat m8 jsut got home, switched on his pc and my ping starts going mad, and eventually pining out. Everyones pc's are clean. I dont know wot else to think of. Something about static ips or something, im jsut not knowledgable in this area. I dont know how to turn my firewall off on my router or how to set it up. Some help would be really appreciated here lads

You sure that PC's clean? Sounds like its hogging all the bandwidth which means either Virus, spwareware or Peer to Peer software.

Is it repeatable? I.e if you plug his machine in, do your pings go wild?

Try booting culprit PCs into safemode with networking and see if the same things occur, check for network transfer and stuff, sounnds like, as Jiff Lemon stated, spyware or something. I managed to completely remove all aspects of spyware/adware/malware from my friends PC, when I first got it on the network here it was bringing my 240kb/sec 2mb connection down to a shy 1-4kb/sec because of the amount of data that was going to and fro!

ok i found a virus called win32-beagel win32-SDBOT win32-kuang2. The last 2 were found on the guys pc that was giving me bad ping and one on mine. I duno if these qould have effected the ping or not: Also could someone recommend me a lightweight firewall that doesnt screw up my gaming or anything else. Im currently suing the one service pack 2 has got. Any good or use another?
