    Broadband for 4!

Just moved into a new house and there are four of us wanting to share a connection. Getting the telewest 512/256 cause we're gonna get the tv/phoneline with them too. I'm looking for a decent 4 port adsl router, any suggestions? Are they easy to set-up?

    Also, whats the difference between?

    Netgear DG814 ADSL Router and
    Netgear RP614 Router

The DG814 has a built in adsl modem where as the RP614 doesn't? The DG814 is twice the price!!

I do have a spare adsl modem, so I could do it that way. Any knowledge would be appreciated as I'm fairly shabby on networking and never used a router before! Also, would wireless maybe be a solution?

    Cheers, Ethos

Correct me if im wrong but since its Telewest its a cable modem rather than DSL. That being the case a DSL router isnt of any use. From what i believe of NTLs cable broadband, there is a standard RJ45 connector on the box.
I apologise now if im incorrect

telewest is cable not ADSL to start with and its 512 down and 128 up so wont work with a ADSL modem or ADSL router
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?

Just look for a router that does both cable/adsl.

I have an el cheapo 11MBs wireless router with 4 x 10/100 network ports.

Telewest modem DHCP set to off, routers DHCP on.

I think the set top box version of the telewest cable modem is an RJ45 connection anyway, which plugs into any network card/router with no problems.

I have the US Robotics Broadband Router USR018000-A or something. Very easy to use and set up and will share your Cable connection between 4 PC's (i've used it with Telewest and then NTL, and now I even use it for my ADSL connection now I have moved to a cable free area - requires separate ADSL ethernet modem for this). Its nice and versatile, and has a nice easily configurable firewall and NAT.

    USR Broadband Router

Cost me about £60 from ebuyer if I recall correctly.

    Regards,
    Adama

Or alternatively you could just setup an old box if you have one and use that as a router, very cheap and easy!
