    Question Wireless Prob?!

I have a major prob at the moment with a wireless network...

The network is running 802.11b using a Lucent AP1000 access point. The problem I have is that I can never get more than 15 XP machines connected to it at any one time! The ones that can't connect still show the signal strength at full but network traffic is zero! The bandwidth usage is not high at all, as it is just used to save word docs to the server and printing...

I can however get 20-30 Win 98 machines connected fine!

The Server is running Windows NT 4 Server sp6 using DHCP...

I don't seem to have much luck with wireless systems!

Any help or suggestions would be great!

    Thanks

Ok, Narrowed the problem down to the access point... Seems to work fine with a different AP... Any ideas what could be causing the access point to block all traffic? There is no wireless authentication at all configured, so its not that. Machine finds AP, signal strength is great, just can't access network at all...

    Anyone had such problems before?

Since starting this thread, I have been unable to connect any machine to this stupid ap!

The access point was quite an expensive one, and probably when it was bought (a year ago or so) was quite a good item. I have a couple more of the same access point and they seem to be okay! What is strange is I can copy the config from a working ap to the dodgy one but still no success...

Oh well, I think I'll give the manu a ring and see if they have any idea what the prob is...

(I actually have another one lying in a cupboard somewhere with the same prob! Must be something causing it??)

This could be a little stretch but you may want to disable the built in firewall on the XP machines. I just had a big headache because of that.

Yeah, I did have a brief look if the firewall was enabled, but it wasn't... After switching all other access points on the network off, the win 98 machines stopped as well... so they must have been getting signal from somewhere else. So, yep the access point is the culprit... Still waiting for a reply from proxim support, I'm not getting my hopes up...

    Thanks
