    Internet dialing up by itself.

    Hi
This is getting really frustrating, the internet connection, to freeserve trys to dial-up by itself all the time.

Even when the modem is switched off it tries. When you connect then disconnect it starts dialing up by it self.

when the computer is turned on and left it dials up.

Is there anything i can do to stop this?

    Thanks
    Will

Install a firewall (thread on software forum discussing which one) - anything other than the XP one should do - and let it tell you which program is trying to get out.

Then take steps to eliminate the program.

are you using internet connection sharing ?

also have you got IE set to always dial your default connection ?

go to Ie , then tools -> internet options
click on the connections tab and set freeserve ( your default connection ) to never dial a connection.

that should stop things auto dialing for a bit !

I'd suggest deleting the dialup connection in control panel and create a new, the existing one maybe corrupted. Make sure you have got all the details for your conn before deleting though (i.e. username password and dialup number) and create a new one

I am using connection sharing. My brother is LANed to my computer. I think it is his computer becuase mine is ok when left by it self.

I seems as if it is MSN messenger dialing-up...?

Thanks very much for all the help.

Well i disabled 'on-demand' dialing. That seems to have stopped the problem
