    Telewest and Tesco

I wonder if the Tescos up here in Aberdeen sells many of the Telewest cable modems and routers they have in stock? cos if they sell any at all it's amazing as we are outside the telewest area!

It just shows you how the big supermarkets treat the whole of the UK exactly the same and ignore any regonal variations they should have in their product line.

Of course, come the NTL : Telewest merger there will be a use for them.....

Besides, if they don't sell, they get cheaper, you get to buy them and flog them on ebay to people in a BY area.

Although the ones in my new Tesco's are Linksys....

    Thats an idea

btw, the telewest/ntl merger won't help us up here as far as cable goes. We have no cable provider here at all, just checked and NTL only offers internetl and telephone access here.

Aberdeen was one of the first cities in the UK to get cable back-in-the-day. I'm not 100% sure of the system they used, but it was a tie in between a private company (Aberdeen Cable i think) and BT (with a ~50% stake). The master signals were sent to the telephone exchanges and then re-sent out coax lines strung along with normal phone lines. Kind of like a star topology. Aberdeen cable was bought by Atlantic Telecom/Atlantic Power about 10 years ago i think, and then went bust about 5 years ago.

So up here if we want broadband then it is ADSL (no idea if SDSL is available) and for premium content TV it is either Sky or European Satelite (which no-one really knows much about anyway).
