Problem with Ethernet through ADSL modem

I'm a desktop running winxp and got the realtek PCI card installed. it's connected to D-link 604+ which is a router (4 port) + ADSL modem built.

i use my laptop (running win2000) and connected the laptop to one of ethernet port and obtained a connection.
I've tried to connect desktop to another ethernet port in the modem, icon shows I'm connected with 100mbit.

when i go to setup the web-based modem setting e.g. 192.168.0.1. and it would get through. but it works with my laptop though. help !!!!!!!!!!!

Can you clarify the problem? I read this twice and still doesn't make sense!

He sounds to have exactly the same problem as Rus has on the "Help needed fast" thread.

1 PC can get the router settup page, the other one cant.

pc set up properly to obtain a ip address from dhcp? if so try running 'ipconfig /renew'
