    Bluetooth Advice Sought

I have a cable modem attached to my PC via onboard NIC. My brother has a bluetooth enabled laptop.

If I were to buy a bluetooth dongle/adaptor can I set up a wireless network connection so he could use my cable modem in another room?

Do I need any additional hardware ?

    PS Aria have dongles/adaptors cheap!

    Theoritically it should work...

Bluetooth can support data transfer of up to 1Mbit/s I think, will that be fast enough?

Technically, you could but Bluetooth is very flakey and the range isn't very good. Your best bet would probably be to borrow one off a friend to test it first.

The alternative is to buy two 801.11b wireless network cards (around £30 each) and run them in ad hoc mode (so they communicate directly, rather than via a hub/router). The range would be better and would support speeds of up to 11Mbps.

thanks for the info - ordered one from aria late last night. See how I get on when it arrives on tuesday.

Hopefully it will work with a mobile phone too - well when I get a bluetooth one that is
