Is it possible to trace someones name or address from an IP address? I have a puzzle to solve on my forum...

No, not without contacting the ISP with the proper legal documentation. You can however usually find the address of someone from a domain name.

depends how cunning your are, i had a miss spent childhood.

Easyest way is to get the ISP to tell you the acount it belongs to this is fairly easy if you've got good socail engineering skills.

You can often find their region if there on cable modem bsaed of the name assigned to the IP. Deligations can often tell you a lot (ripe does europe).

Then theres getting into the PC itself (assuming the PC is still on that IP).
