NTHELL (What does my friend need)

My friend recently got cable broadband installed in her new flat but she didnt want any cables running through the house so she was advised to go and buy a wireless router and a wireless card to fit in her computer.
Problem : No internet access and cant get it too work. I believe this is because she has a wireless router rather than a wireless cable modem.

Cable Point>>>Cable Modem>>>Wireless Router. Correct me if im wrong but does a wireless router not require to be hardwired to her computer also. She has the wireless PCI card which she was told would allow her to access the net.

So i need to know what gear she needs to have a totally wireless connection to the internet.
I believe a wireless cable modem and a Wireless PCI Card will do the trick.
Cable Point >>>Wireless Cable Modem>>>Wireless PCI Card. That way she should only have the cable coming from the wall to the modem which will be very short.
I know there is wireless cable Modem/Routers out there for sale but which one does she need.
    Thanks

wireless routers seem to now enable a firewall as default therefore you cant connect
automatically ( i know this to be true for a belkin one i bought) so you need to connect to it
directly by ethernet then disable the firewall and get it connected and set it up.

Nope, connection from cable modem/settop box into router then across the airwaves to the PCI wireless card in her PC.

Thanks for the reply m8 but not sure we're on the right path as each other.
    Will try and explain better.

She wants the modem and the router sitting in the corner and she wants her computer in the bedroom with no wires going from the living room to the bedroom. Will the method you are on about work like that ?
    Thanks

You need a wireless router (Not one which uses ADSL)
Once you set up the router by directly connecting by ethernet you can unplug it and
    it will work.

the modem connects to the wan port of the router.

If you mean me then yes what I outlined should work like that.
Check that she is getting a decent signal between the router & card - depending on wall construction that can vary & other things like video senders can also interfere.
