Wireless Router Boosters? exist

My parents have a wireless netowrk in their house running a 2mb bt broadband line. They just built a new study and moved the comp in their. The thing is the wireless connection wont reach the wireless card in the comp so cant get connected.

the router and comp cant be moved as other comps will lose coverage then.

Is there anyway round this, like a booster or something.

Yeah just get a bigger/better aerial for the router.

Or a WGPS606 from Netgear in another room they have PCs in - its a booster/repeater/wireless print server and 4 port switch all in one - and it doesnt need to be hard wired into the network - it works off the wireless.

Probably best to check which router they have first and then see if there are any repeaters or access points which can function as repeaters which are listed as compatible with it. That Netgear looks like a useful piece of kit, but it doesn't appear to function as a wireless repeater, just as a wireless print server with a wired switch. It has a "bridge" mode, but that appears to be solely for connecting the PCs wired into it to anything else on the wireless LAN.

Do you know what make and model router they have, Merlin?

I've got it, and it seems to boost the signal to different rooms in the house that previously could not get wireless or had very poor signal. But I do agree, see if there are any specifically designed to work with their router.

that looks very good, as i will maybe be in the same situation how exactlydoes it work, i couldnt figure out wether it connected to the pc or ot??

and about the repeater is that just like another router that feeds off the main router and outputs another signal from for instance the other room or the next floor??

john: as i know your home pc has wireless built onto he motherboard which is no doubt a cheap one, maybe a dedicated belkin card from scan would be better they are only 20 quidish

The Flatenna fits over the anntenna on your router and works by reflecting the signal which would normally be transmitted behind the router out the front of the router (or whatever direction you have the flatenna pointing) - check the other pages on the website, it has a full explanation and shows you a chart showing the radiation pattern before and after. They also give you a 21 day money back option should it not work for you - I don't have anything to do with them incase your thinking that, just think it's a good cheap solution to your problem rather than messing around with repeaters. There really is no reason why you need to use repeaters in a house unless you live in a mansion - you either have a bad router or you've not set it up correctly.

Your other option is to use a wireless bridge. Connect the computer in the study to the wireless bridge using a long piece of ethernet cable and locate the bridge in a place that can communicate with the router. That way you won't need to relocate the computer in the study.
