    My Wireless networking is SLOW

    Hey everyone,
I've had my Wifi set up for some time now. I've been using an X-micro 108 turbo router and wifi card. I recently added my 2nd PC to the wireless network with a .11G card, and as it's only monitor is my crappy TV, i want to be able to control it via the wifi connection.

The problem I've found is that if I go to copy a file from 1 PC to another over the network, it's really really slow! a 20MB file takes 10minutes! Downloading that same file off the internet using the same wifi took 2minutes!

Similarly PC Anywhere and VNC run, but they are so slow on the network it's too painfull.

Both PC's have good reception and 54Mbps. Internet is quick on both. I disabled the Turbo mode on my main PC because I thought it might be a problem, so they are both running at the same speed on channel 7.

    Any suggestions??

How have you got the network setup IP wise? What addresses etc are you using for the PC's and networking hardware? Have you got anything running in the background on either PC (e.g. P2P software, media serving software). Also as a test (disconnect from the internet first though, assuming your using ADSL just unplug the router from the phone line) turn off any encryption and all firewalls etc and try again...

Try disabling turbo (108mbps) mode on the router

I disabled superG mode already. I disabled all firewalls. I didn't have anything else using the network at all when testing it out (eg no P2P, etc). But I will try unplugging the modem (modem is a seperate ethernet one) from the router, see what happens.

Are you forcing the AP to channel 7 or is it set to "auto" ?

    Hi,
I'm forcing to channel 7. Why? What can that do? Should I have auto?
I actually changed it from SuperG and forced channel 7 (I did this at the same time) as an attempt to remedy this problem.

I tried disconnecting internet, and it didn't help.

OK, I'm now trying a different network card on my second PC, but it's still really weird. The connection is now intermittent at best... It says signal is 90%, it's always connected, net is fine, CS:Source etc are fine, but go to copy or connect between computers, and it starts and stops, and just really slow!

Are there any settings on the router that could be effecting performance? I havent set up the firewall at all.

*OK I changed to Channel 2 and it's going a lot better... weird...

I am now able to run Remote Desktop Manager, but i can't access the shared folder in my workgroups. I get 'Access denied', but i can control the f*ing computer using RDM! Grr... I know this is now a windows issue, but it's bugging me like hell.

I have disabled firewalls on both machines...

    HELP!!!
