Am I being stupid, or will having my router on top of the panny 5.1 system subwoofer degrade the signal?

If the router is electrically noisy, it might cause interference to the sub-woofer. Unlikely though. Try it and see.

I was more worried about the other way around. There being a magnet in the woofer etc. No problems with the sound though!

Shouldn't be a problem other way round either, unlikely to be anything in the router that would be affected by any residual magnetic field - but again - try it and see.

not many subwoofers are shielded due tot he size of the magnets they require, check in your manual.
if it works, great but i cant say id recommend it...mind you i have mine on top of my front speaker and it hasnt been a problem...mind you it is shielded.
Just curious, what Panasonic set have you got, I've got the SCHT-900 and all the speakers are magnetically shielded for working near CRT Tvs. Might not be the same on all sets tho...

Mine is some sort of ancient one, SA-MT1. It is annoying for the fact that it only plays 5.1 with dvds played in the system and not any other inputs. If I had the money I would be getting a nice home cinema setup.
Back on topic, I may try moving my router to see if it helps my signal at all.

Are you talking about the ADSL signal or the wireless signal? (not that it should make any difference to either, although moving the router may change wireless performance, it won't be because of the influence of anty magnetic field)

It should be fine - it looks to have the same subwoofer as my set, and I have had no problems with sound or wireless signal quality from the belkin card that was inside my PC (my sub is literally less than 4 inches away from it). Never noticed any problems with sound quality either. Moving your router to a higher place might be a good idea anyway however, as it will generally give you better signal for a wider range - unless your building has fireproof walls etc (like part of the building where I work - Wireless is a nightmare - an access point a room in efffect.)

Thanks for the input peeps!

4"? Thats crazy, you really dont like your hard disks do you? The majority of Subs are unsheilded, and if its got even a half decent driver in there itll be throwing a fair amount of flux around. (My gigaworks sub distorts tv from about 4 feet away.)Originally Posted by dave87
nope, my hard disks often have disagreements with me - but all are perfectly healthy.
The Sub is fine near my pc, well it has been for the last 8 or so months. Mine being a purpose built AV Set is shielded I would presume, as i had it less than 4 foot away from a 32" CRT telly, and it didnt cause any problems - and this is 220w @ 8ohms.

I have an 8" JBL subwoofer under my desk about 4 feet away from my PC also on the floor. I can play music at levels not dis-similar to the levels you'll hear at a club, and to the point where you can feel it in your stomach quite a lot... Yet my PC never complains Nor do the neighbours. Or maybe they're just scared
