    Finally, Be internet 24mbs is on my exchange!

    For those thinking of changing ISPs ;0

    Just got connected to Be, was a very painless transfer took a total of 9days to transfer once i got the MAC code. Had just over an hour of downtime during the transfer bwteen the ISPs, now i'm paying less than i was when i was on BT and at speeds of over 15X faster!!
    (BT 1mb 29.99 per month and Be 24mb -actual speed is 'only' 18mbs- £20 per month)

    Been signed up for Be since last year but have been waiting for my exchange (Kidbrooke) to go 'live', after 4-5months wait it's finally become live last week. During that time i've actually reffered 2 people (who've got their connections up for months now ) in total i've just paid £40 for 4 months of high speed internet! (1 month free for every referal - the person refered also gets one month free!)

    With all the crap that BT gave me about only being able to supply a 1mb internet service to my house due to the crap phone lines i only expected around 5-8mbs from BE, to my suprise i got 17.8Mbs! Much higher than my two refered friends (one gets 'only' 10mbs and the other 7.8mbs)

    Just downloaded a 100mbs file in less than a minute (over 2000kbps!!!!) wow!, I just now need a MUCH larger hardrive to fit all the junk i'm gonna download!
    So far its been 2 days and i'm VERY happy with the connection and prompt service from be

    A word of warning though, even though touted as a 24mbs service you're likley to get much lower speeds (although the upload speed of 1.3Mbs should be achieveable) it's very dependant on your distance from your local exchange and a lesser extent your internal wiring system.

    EDIT: before anyone asks why i'm only paying £20/month instead of the £24 listed on their website its because i signed up during the intial one month pilot offer period. Basically they allowed me to sign up for the offer (£20 per month for life ) knowing fully they cannot supply me with the service yet, nothing was charged from my credit card during this period and when my echange became live they just sent me an email asking me to log in and enter my MAC code, and thats all i had to do 9 days later wireless be router arrived i just plugged it in and thats it

    Yes, the 24 Mb is "theoretical" and would only be seen in laboratory conditions

    Please can you go to the following link and run the test so we can drool at your lovely fast line ;

    I am envious - mine was due to be done but has been put back now till June

    the link is www.bethere.co.uk or if you want i can refer you if i refer you then i'll get one month free and you'll get one month free too! If i can get 24 people signed up i can get free internet for life (or so they say).

    Not sure how far i'm away from my exchange though, i think i'm less than 1 mile away maybe nearer to 1/2mile away.

    Heres a link to some unofficial be forums http://www.beforum.co.uk/forum/default.aspx
    some bad views on there about be, a few people complaining about slow speeds, disconnects, etc and such certainly quite different experiences to mine. i'm not sure if my experiences are the exception or the norm. So just head over there and get views from both sides

    This chart seems quite accurate for calculating 'potential' speeds;

    http://www.beforum.co.uk/forum/default.aspx?f=2&m=3875

    it shows line attenuation against speed, checked it with the attenuation numbers at my friends and mine and they were quite accurate. For reference my line attenuation is (Up/Down) [dB]: 11.0 / 24.0 and speed is 17.8Mbs. Although other factors do come into play signal/noise ratios (induced by bad/wiring cabling) hence the average numbers listed too, the max figures are quite accurate if you are connceting directly into your master socket though.

    - you can see your line attentuation numbers from your modem/router stats.

    The only LLU services on my exchange are Bulldog and Easynet :/ I'm definitely not going with Bulldog, and Easynet seem to only over business products. Does anyone know of any ISP who use Easynet LLU for broadband who I might be able to use? It's eaither that or wait for ADSL Max...
