Question need help on building a CMSed website

ok, if you havnt guessed by the title, i want to build a website, anyhow, instead of using some stupid hoast that does everything for you (usually terrible or terribly over priced!) i want to make a website using a CMS ect.

but whereas there is more than ample amounts of information on the interweb about building a website using HTML, there seems to be nothing along the lines of a "noobies guide" when it comes to using a CMS!

anyhow, i have more or less chosen "Joomla!" as my CMS, but when i looked at the "installation" page it got kinda confused with wordes like "apache" (is that an attack helicopter ?)

so, i was wondering if somone could link me to a suitable "noobies guide" or failing that perhaps give me a few pointers?

    thanks in advance!

I just got into experimenting with CMS' the other day aswell, its not that hard to get using one, honest!

It refers to Apache (which is a helicopter, yes) which is a web server.

To get everything you need to run a CMS website and view it locally, I reccoment the Apache2Triad bundle, install that and then place the whole joomla! directory in the htdocs directory where you installed A2T and open your browser and type "127.0.0.1" or "localhost" and then follow the instructions, should be up in no time

I could be wrong, I but I think thats the process I used!

    Cheers,
    David

    thanks for your quick reply!

ok, diddent know you could just use it on your own computer to experiment.

but, what about letting other people view your website without operating your own server, i guess i would need to find some payed hoasting, but what should i be looking for

also, whats your opinion on joomla! ? is it "the best" for a beginner or are there better ones?

Not sure about which is the 'best' but Joomla seems very easy for me to get my head round, so its user friendly I would say
