configuring SOCKS and Proxy for my home network

I need some help configuring SOCKS to allow me to connect to IRC via a proxy server.

The gateway PC uses the IP 192.168.0.01 and my machine is 192.168.02

The reason i have to use a proxy is we have AOL broadband and its the only way to share the connection.

I have SOCKScap on my machine and i am having difficulty connecting.

To use the proxy to browse the internet i point my LAN setting connection to the gateway IP using port 6588.

So where am i going wrong? no obvious joke about using AOL please - i have no say in the matter of the ISP we use.

Tried Bypass client proxy and it STILL won't allow me to connect to IRC. Has anyone ever used AnalogX proxy and mIRC?
